What are vinyl reissues?
Vinyl reissues are simply new pressings of previously released records. The original release of an album, single or EP on vinyl is known as the original or first press. These are often highly valued by collectors and fans for their originality. Any vinyl produced after the first press is classed as a reissue – whether it's been one year or 30.
Artists and producers offer vinyl reissues for various reasons. Some are produced closer to the original release to meet high levels of demand. Others are created years (or even decades) after the first press to satisfy renewed demand or celebrate anniversaries.
Reissues of older vinyl releases tend to feature remastered audio, meaning the sound quality has been enhanced with modern technology. Many also come with fresh artwork, bonus tracks and other bonus features for the avid fan. One of the great things about vinyl reissues is that they give new listeners the chance to enjoy classic albums as they were originally released. They're also just very cool!

- Matrix numbers: These should be stamped or etched in the run-out groove (the section between the central label and the grooves). Many first-press releases will have something like A//1 or B//1 on either side. You can search for official matrix numbers online to confirm whether you've got a first press or not.
- Release date: Another easy way to tell is by looking at the release date found on the label. If this is later than the original release date, you've most likely got your hands on a reissue.
- Sleeve and label design: Many label and sleeve designs from classic albums are truly iconic and hard to mistake. Reissues tend to be different from the original. The label may also include elements that identify the vinyl and when it was produced.
- Condition: Generally speaking, an original first-press vinyl should be in worse condition than a newer reissue – even if someone has lovingly cared for it!
